Intern with Sitare Foundation

I interned at Sitare Foundation in India for six weeks during my school break to identify the nearest schools providing free education with available space for children from the underprivileged community, in five districts (Ajmer, Bhopal, Indore, Jaipur, and Jodhpur) of India. Using Google Maps, I collected the GPS coordinates of about 2,500 schools and the addresses of 500 children.

I developed a formula and applied it in a spreadsheet to find out the ten nearest schools to the children’s residences.

Identifying the nearest schools could reduce the time of commute for the children. In many cases, some schools were within walking distance from the children’s residences. This would make education more accessible to the children.
